Friday December 17, 2021

 Hello families,

Today we read The Polar Express, and then we watched the movie.  We compared the book and movie to see the similarities and differences. We noticed that the movie shows us moving and talking people, they showed us all of the events that happened, they give us better clues to figure out what might happen next, and we got to see the northern lights.  In the book, they use a lot of describing words and it was harder to figure out what would be happening next with only pictures to look at, and we did not see the northern lights.

We did a movement break today and it was called The Grinch run.  We had to dodge the Grinch, collect snowballs and use the snowballs to knock a wall down.

I hope everyone has restful holidays and we will see you back on Tuesday January 4.

 Hello families,

Today we started off our day by listening to a story about kindness. Please ask your child about ways they can be kind at home and at school.

We did literacy centers where we read to the teacher, stamped our words of the week (saw, school, she, said, right), learned a new poem, listened to a holiday book or focused on printing.  Ask your child what center the went to today.

We did a guided drawing of an elf on the shelf and labelled the parts of our drawing which will help us write out some sentences tomorrow.

We talked about being kind to our classmates and including them in our activities at school, especially if someone does not have a partner.

We also worked on math centers today, which focused on making groups of tally marks up to 20 with popsicle sticks, drawing 20 items, counting out 20 bears in a bin, and using 10 frames to put our counting chips on. Please ask your child what center they went to today.
